What do you want to see in the iPhone update?

Posted: 01:03 PM ET
Apple will unveil its iPhone 3.0 software Tuesday.
Apple will unveil its iPhone 3.0 software Tuesday.

Apple is scheduled to make an iPhone announcement Tuesday, and you may have seen the reports from Fortune and others: Kevin Rose of Digg says the iPhone 3.0 software will support copy and paste (finally!!!) and bring the phone's feature list up to par with the upcoming Palm Pre.

Rose also cites his source as saying that there will be no background applications for the iPhone, no video and no multimedia messages (MMS) this release.

But hopefully Apple will announce its long-promised iPhone push-notification system (which will make things like instant messaging actually useful).

Of course, we’ll find out exactly what we’ll be getting Tuesday. But speculating about what Apple will do is half the fun, right?

So what iPhone features do you want to see?

1. MMS
2. MMS
3. MMS

That's all I want!

Dave   March 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Still no MMS? Hello 5 years ago. Apple really is cutting edge...No thanks.

Bobby   March 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

How about flash based video? It is long, long overdue.

Bob   March 16th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Flash....Thats all it needs

Get on that apple

Blake   March 16th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

How about flash. Notice they don't show the commercials showcasing the Internet anymore. Kinda, sorta, looks like the Internet... Not complaining too much though, I'm typing this on my 3g.

Kevin   March 16th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

Yes, the capabilities of viewing a Flash app is necessary.

Gignomai   March 16th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

I want to see a Calendar that will allow a person to schedule repeats at any interval. I have an action that repeats every 4 days. Can't schedule with Apple. Palm has had this feture for years.

The Schmieginator   March 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

I still don't understand why the iphone doesn't support MMS either. My previous freebie phone could.

joe   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

i want iphone to verizon.

alwx2   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

A carrier besides AT&T.

Adam   March 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

MMS! viewmymessage.com is such a joke, Apple should be embarrassed to be using it with their phone!

Sam, G.P. TX   March 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

1. MMS
2. Landscaped keyboard in all typing scenarios
3. Flash
4. Voiced map directions

Built in bottle opener and screwdriver. Welcome to 125 years ago, Apple.

zigzag2020@gmail.com   March 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

Without flash capablity, the iphone browser is a dud! Flash is ubiquitous on the web and websites everywhere. Not being able to view a website because Iphone cannot handle flash is pathetic in this age...

Steve   March 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

Want to be able to link it with my car alarm, so I can see if it is going off.

Joe   March 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

MMS, flash, background apps...and heck, copy/paste would be nice too

Marc   March 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

How about bluetooth support of stereo headphones.

Clpo   March 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Ummm, how about A2DP support for bluetooth stereo headsets.... and oh yeah... MMS... my lord, even my wifes 6 year old Motorola Razor has that....

Adam   March 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Ummm Bob? Flash is an Adobe product, so how could Apple "get on that?"

Brian   March 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

No MMS?

How ridiculous. Get with the times Apple. They really are unbelievable. This is the one thing their customers want, and they just flat out REFUSE to add it.

Austin   March 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

1) COPY AND PASTE!!
2) MMS

Big_E   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Allow me to dial a call for a meeting from the CALENDAR.

Jacob   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

A button that can be pressed that will automatically and immediately end the recession!

t   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

I'm sure someone will say "duh, it is already there" to this, (but I haven't been able to find it...

I would like to be able to send photos via a text (Quip doesn't work).

Oliver   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

I want the keyboard to flip when typing an email/sms, the same way it does when you are using the safari browser. My fingers are too big to type long messages and I am starting to miss my BB.

Gabe   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Run background apps! Let me decide my battery life's fate!!

mark habash   March 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

FLASH!

Marc   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

If it is supposed to be equal to the Palm Pre then this release would include video, MMS, push, 3 megapixel camera, etc etc. Come on Apple, I love you but let's get caught up here!

ljl   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

How about video like every jail-broken iphone has?

testy   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

cut and paste how easy can you get.

Joanne   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I want Iphone on verizon!!

jmh   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I want Apple to stop being so proprietary and offer the iPhone to different wireless companies!

Dandy   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Picture text please......only phone that can't send a picture through text....

jason   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Copy paste
Video recording
Flash

Anna   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I second the desire Gignomai made regarding the Calendar feature that will allow you to schedule repeats at any interval. Makes no sense that Apple doesn't support that yet. Hope they will include this on future releases!

Robert Hallock   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Flash, push email and MMS. For a smartphone, the iPhone is awfully dumb sometimes.

James   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

As a Canadian with a business in Los Angeles two years ago...I bought two 8g iPhones when they first came out for $599. Paid my plan faithfully for Cingular's two year contract. Contract's over and I closed the business and am back in Canada.

Rogers cell service in Canada offers iPhone subscriptions. I tried to activate it with Rogers, but they said I needed an unlock code to release the phone for Rogers' subscription. I called Cingular and they said "no, we will not give you the unlock code." They absolutely refused...So, now I have two iPhones that cost me $1200 and is completely USELESS...Thanks alot, Steve Jobs!

Jim   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Real GPS with Voice Turn By Turn Directions, such as TeleNav on Blackberry. Until that happens, Iphone is inferior to Blackberry,

Keith   March 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Get rid of AT&T! Make it available for all providers. AT&T support is terrible!!!

Patrick Aitken   March 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Receiving picture messages without having to login, and if i have to login to get them, then i want to use one login, or link picture texts to my email. Video would be sweet too.

Taxi Find GPS – have iphone emit a "I need a taxi" signal, so cabs can find you on empty city streets.

Maria   March 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

I love my 3G, but it'll be great to finally have Flash and a video application. But Flash is a MUST. Copy & paste can be VERY useful too.

Don Roberts   March 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Please allow slingbox compatability! Watching movies and sports remotely on my iphone would be amazing on the iphone screen. I know the 2 companies have a working version. It seems like it would be win -win for both of them from an income standpoint. It certainly would be great for the consumer.

andy   March 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

1. Turn-by-turn navigation similar to TomTom and Garmin.
2. Flash
3. Java

thank you.

Wes Wilson   March 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Geez - MMS!!!! I just want to be able to get picture mail from friends without having to type in a freaking password.

ed   March 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

1) Let apps run in the background (I'd like to browse the web while my wunderradio is still running)

2) Flash

3) VOIP

4) Video recording capabilities (is this software or hardware? or both?)

charles   March 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

I want to be able to send picture texting, watch any video I want, and a record video.

JP   March 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

MMS would be awesome. Voice dial should be a safe bet. Turn by turn Nav. Flash would create a buzz. Horizontal e-mail and text control would be awesome (you can already turn the web browser horizontally) Easier navigation in the settings (ie browsing through 5 navs to turn bluetooth on.)

It seems that Apple has an awesome product that just really needs polishing.

arnold   March 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

turn by turn gps directions

Viral   March 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

I would like to see the following:

1) Ability to view e-mail in landscape.
2) Ablility to send a meeting invite to my contacts when I schedule an event in my calendar.

Aubrey   March 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Video recording!

Christian   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

It doesn't really matter what we want, Apple knows best, dont they?

molly   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

FLASH

An iPhone app developer   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Higher developer fees: maybe $1000/yr. instead of $99/yr.

That way, most of the trash on the app store will go away.

And of course, background apps, push notifications, and flash.

Alex   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

As a developer, the push notifications would be huge. Background applications would be better, but the chances of that are slim.

Push notifications would let us notify users when there is new content available without them having to open the app. Very useful.

Ian   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

I would have to agree with everyone that says MMS. Seriously.

John   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

MMS
Copy/Paste
Flash
Mainstream Corporate Email Support (GoodMobile or Blackberry Connect)

lovetheIPhone but......   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Would love to be able to forward messages!

james smith   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

How about free software. Opensource support! Google G1 got it right, apple is putting a stronghold onto the software allowed on the iPhone.

Victor J Kinzer   March 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

What do I want on the iPhone? The list goes on forever. I want an open platform that doesn't require Apple's little parental OK for applications I want to run.

I want copy and paste.

I want an open audio architecture that doesn't tie me into the useless little waste of code they call iTunes.

I want a device that isn't intentionally made with design flaws that require dongles and specially made earphones, and a load of other BS that facilitates third party consumerism slop at every turn.

Maybe apple can get on that for me.

Jen   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Video, easy video upload to Facebook, camera flash & camera zoom, Flash app

Kevin   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

1) Add Notes and To-Do to the Mobile-Me sync suite
2) Copy & Paste
3) Flash Support
4) An informational screen that shows how much memory an App consumes, etc.

davethompsonmpls   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

1. Landscape mode as an option for any use of the keyboard.
2. Cut and paste.
3. MMS

And no, I do not want Flash. I can't even log on to CNNSI any more from home - flash movies start downloading the minute you show up there.

brad   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Hearing aid compatible would be very nice.

hipechic   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

I want to see a decent planner/calendar, MMS, video, & Flash programming. The phone is great, but like most of us, it's only living up to a mere fraction of its potential.

wcmillionairre   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Excellent call quality and a decent camera (like ANY cell phone)...it is annoying to have to carry my Motorola Razor to receive calls, and the iPhone to read MRIs. Come on Apple, GET WITH IT!

pedobear   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

1. Moar CP
2. Android software

Seth   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

A skype application that actually works. It is very lame that the iphone has internet capabilities, and that Skype enables free calling online (or for a nominal cost anyway), and the only reason apple doesn't support this is to protect ATT's revenue model.

Squeaker   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

I would like for iPhone/AT&T to have better service... i.e. so that the connection doesn't cut out in the middle of a conversation with no warning such that the person I am conversing with keeps talking but I only catch about half what he/she is saying. Also, there's a stupid bug that won't show missed calls if there's an "unread" text message waiting to be swiped. That's also annoying when I'm trying to get ahold of someone who hasn't checked their phone recently and can't hear it ring.

nick   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Landscape texting!! PLEASE!

Linda   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

I want an option for the iphone to make a small "ding" every 1-2 minutes if I missed a call. Currently, the only way to see if you missed a call is to wake it up and look at the screen.

Dan Baum   March 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

A word processor and a folding bluetooth keyboard a la the palm.

Brian   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Buy a Nokia and be done with it

ifonefreedfromapplesjail   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

in response to Adam March 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Ummm Bob? Flash is an Adobe product, so how could Apple “get on that?”

APPLE & ADOBE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON ADOBE FLASH for iPhone support, so they in fact, have, already "got on that"

wcmillionairre   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

So when is the Palm Pre available?

Dana   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Firstly, I want all the calendars I subscribe to via iCal pushed to my iPhone; secondly, I want a To-Do list that can reorganized by drag and drop.

MARINEFIGHTER   March 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

FLASH FLASH FLASH

Mercedes   March 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

MMS or I am going back to my Palm

ifonefreedfromapplesjail   March 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

SERIOUSLY, Everything i just read here is available on the iphone. Turn By Turn Navigation already exists for the phone

Steve   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

I want a sirius connection so I can hear sports when I'm on the go. How about a tv connection too?

Jason   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

1. Flash
2. MMS
3. Voiced map directions

Joseph Christian   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

MMS and Flash support for starters. More carriers to select from. I got my i-phone last Friday and I love it. I would like to see something this advances with the same functions as a lesser phone, as well as the more advanced options it has.

Allie   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

I want an official Qik application in the app store!

Charlie   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

World peace, cure for AIDS, and an end to global warming.

Flash Already   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Flash. Flash websites. Flash videos. MMS a distant second to FLASH.

Protag   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

How about cutting the price of owning one by 1/3rd so that it's comparable to the far-superior G1 Google Phone. The G Phone even has copy and paste. Wow!

Jabari Williams   March 16th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Flash
Copy/Paste
Ability to use the phone as a modem
Ability to mount the iphone as external hard drive
Better reception!
sync stickies to notepad

And a partridge is a pear tree!

i want that   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

This in the only phone you will ever need ... useless you want flash video, MMS, take videos and a loud speakerphone ... besides that , its the only phone you need . :-)

Lisa   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

1. A carrier other than AT & T
2. MMS
3. Normal ring tones
4. Live streaming video
5. Radio capabilities would be nice

Patrick   March 16th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

Longer battery life. I can charge my 3g all night and it will be dead by 2pm

Jason   March 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

MMS
Landscape keyboard on everything

Amanda T   March 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

The ability to forwarding text messages

Adam   March 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

How about being able to email a photo from the email app, not just from the Photo Ap? And the ability to send more photos than just one at a time...I also vote for copy and paste, landscape keyboard on all aps, MMS, Flash, and Video Recording.

Sean   March 16th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

FLASH, FLASH, FLASH........... Simple.

Ryan   March 16th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

A2DP support... I'm tired of adapters in 2009!

I WANT PICTURES   March 16th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

I WANT MMS! VIEWABLE PICTURES AND MESSAGES

cjqueen   March 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

1. Flash for the camera would be nice!
2. MMS so I can send/receive pics through text, not just by email.
3. Text forward capability.
4. Ability to make a reaccuring date for other than their specified intervals.

rvmj   March 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

1. MMS

2. Any service other than AT & T. Here in DC, my iPhone suddenly becomes obsolete underground when commuting on the Metro. It's such a great phone but useless during most of my commute.

3. Flash.

These things have all been said, but I wanted to put an exclamation point on the discussion to say. PLEASE. :)

Ortizimo!   March 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

Everything everyone else is saying because is time they get with the program and of course a new type of battery that last longer...this is truly overdue...keep putting crappy apps in everythin but the bat last less and less...WTF!

S.L.   March 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

1. voice command interface, at least for ipod and maps – it's a road hazard as is.
2. landscape keyboard option for all apps

Joaquin P.   March 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

Video recording capabilities so I record my wicked lyrical masterpieces on the fly.

2. cut/copy/paste
3. option to save documents
4. extending above making iphone as mobile cabinet to store all important docs.
4. FLASH
5. Video recorder, ability to record with option to send format by email or save it for later processing.
6. JAVA.
7. more option for VPN connectivity, as of now they support only CISCO, option to create secure VPN tunnel either using open standards or xtending beyond CISCO.

RL   March 16th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

A very simple thing that my old blackberry pearl had that i found very handy. a small blinking red light that notifies you that you've missed a message/call/text/email.

Armando   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Flash, MMS, Memory card capabilities, turn by turn maps application, remove the stupid message: "Camera" would like to use your current location, Don't Allow, OK.

What I Want   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

1. Background apps
2. Spoken turn-by-turn navigation directions
3. Flash
4. Video capture
5. MMS
6. Copy-and-paste

Sid   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Landscape keyboard for texting; ability to add individual photos, videos, songs without syncing entire library

Cherie   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

1) Forwarding text and multiple sender ability. 2) Landscape mode for email. 3) Turn-by-turn, GPS based navigation. 4) Better ring tone selection or the ability to use uploaded songs not originating from iTunes. I'm almost ready to sell my iPhone on eBay and pay full price for the BB Storm. C'mon Apple, be like Rick James and "Give It To Me Baby," lol. Seriously though, upgrade us! This is making me question my 10 yr marriage to AT&T.

Amy   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Flash, as well as the ability to use zoom on the camera. I'd like to be able to send pics via a text message too (is that MMS?) Copy and paste would just be GREAT. Also, the ability to use iPod songs as an alarm/ringtone, rather than those annoying default ringtones.

Don McDonald   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Better app management screens
Improved e-mail interface (landscape mode, mark as read, etc.)
Video recording
MMS
Computer tethering

Amanda T   March 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Erin   March 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

MMS definitely!! Completely RIDICULOUS that we can't text pictures!! It drives me NUTS.

mdavidangst   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Copy & Paste ?....

hmmmm, it's now supported because someone else has finally developed it for the Cydia hack.....

Would be interesting if Apple ever developed their own software, instead of stealing what's already made, and then claiming they created it......

Derek   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Landscape keyboard

Staci   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

I just want to be able to send and accept picture text messages!!! What's so freakin' hard about that????

Dan   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Matt   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Jen   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

A way to beam contacts from one iphone to another. I used to be able to do this on my Cleo from 5 years ago. Copy/Paste, yes please. Oh, a way to stop safari from crashing so I can actually download Apps...that would be cool too. Is there Firefox for Iphone? I hate Safari!

dennis the menace   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

1 – Landscape texting and email
2 – Picture/video messaging
3 – Sub folders/groups to organize your apps.
4 – time stamps on each txt message

SA   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Ability to -Dictate email-as is on blackberry!

kristenvk   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

1. i want to be able to "snooze" an event on my calendar.

2. i want to be able to forward a text message.

3. i want to be able to copy and paste anything...part of a text, email, etc. (you say this update it coming, i'm still waiting.)

4. i want to be able to search my email for a specific sender/receiver.

all of these things, blackberry has and i miss them all.

Mike   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

To those who want to run apps in the background.

1. jailbreak your phone (will void warranty, but it is NOT illegal. Not to be confused with unlocking, which will allow you to breach contract and use another carrier). Use google for this.
2. Use Cydia (the installer that comes on you phone after you unlock), and search for "backgrounder".
3. Now you can put *any* app in the background!

Oh and copy/paste has already been done for jailbroken phones as well. Again, google.

bbc   March 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

a better camera

justin@gmail.com   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Flash, Flash, and nothing but Flash. Iphone is plain stupid without flash as we can't access half the websites after paying through our nose for unlimited data access

Eddie   March 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

1. MMS
2. Video Recorder
3. Flash
4. Voice Navigation

iphone-eh   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

1. flash support
2. video camera
3. horizontal keyboard
4. play .avi movies
5. MMS

MMS was not added because the future of mobile picture messaging is going to be email based. You can take higher resolution images and send them easier and faster using email rather than MMS. Although it didnt make much sense when the iPhone was released, the future will be email based picture message. Plus, you know AT&T would charge you for an additional MMS package.

I hope Copy+Paste, Tethering, Flash integration, background apps or Push notification.

A nice feature would be if you could rearrange the icons easier eith on the phone or through iTunes using your mouse.

femmefatale   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

How could there be no MMS? Are they kinding? I am G1 user, it will be the Iphone killer. Give it a year....

Van Serpico   March 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Turn-by-turn voice GPS. It's ridiculous that the phone has yet to feature this!

I WANT SIRIUS/XM RADIO. Apple has the application, so get it done already!

Glenn N   March 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Flash would be the best. You can then view Hulu and other sites that have online TV and video shows. Also, you would be able to play online games.

Thats my 2 cents.

Glenn N

Savs   March 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

1) Copy+Paste
2) Bluetooth (for headphones and beaming files)
3) Run more than one app (at least two) at the same time.
4) Talking directions on GPS
5) All service providers (not just AT&T)
6) Video recorder/share
7) Few more better in-built ring tones (I hate a song as my ring tone!)

David   March 16th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

Apple has the consumer snowed. So your big feature is MMS, Video and Copy Paste? Other phones have these features today and are now breaking into the video phone calls. At apple we'll give you copy/paste and you'll be happy. At apple we hold out what people need, give it to them when we want a distraction from more useful releases. Maybe one day, we'll get an iphone that actually does more than Blackberry and Palm. Go Apple!

Lauren   March 16th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

ability to text pictures. viewmymessage is horrible!!!

bobr   March 16th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

I agree that Flash and Multimedia would be great, but I see why they are NOT being included yet. Think of the drain on the non-3G networks ( or even the 3G networks for that matter). Can the current networking infrastructure really handle the increased load???

I suspect it is the impact on the networks more than the "ability" of Apple to provide the needed software that is the problem. I you give people the feature, but is is slower than a snail (or simply timesout), people are going to get rapidly disgruntled, and Apple (being the most visible component) will take most of the heat (rightly or wrongly).

Robin   March 16th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Verizon support so I can finally buy one!

Jason   March 16th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

Tethering, no more AT&T would be nice.

Wesley   March 16th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

I think the main features EVERYONE would appreciate are:

1) MMS (to echo the 3,000 others that have already posted)
2) Cut and Paste
3) A Landscaped Keyboard during all uses (web, email, text)
4) The ability to tether to a laptop in order to gain Internet. Such as Blackberries have.

mm   March 16th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

I want Flash so I can be annoyed by all the banner ads on the internet, and MMS so I can pay through the nose to the phone companies rather than just using email which is free.

Witte   March 16th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

STILL NO MMS! You have GOT to be kidding me. There has to be some sort of legal reason they aren't allowed to add feature or something because this is getting absolutely ridiculous.

Even my piece of crap Treo was able to send photos.

I can see the commercial parody now for this....

"Need to level your desk? There's an app for that. Need to find the nearest dog groomer? There's an app for that. Need to learn German? There's an app for that. Want to send a photo to your wife while you're away on a long business trip? Um... We're choosing not to give you an app for that."

I have been writing them asking that they add a Sirius Satellite Radio application that will allow me to stream Sirius on my iPhone.

Apparently there was a third party provider offering this, but they have been unable to reach an agreement. For the sake of their users I hope they develop one soon.

I'd like for my phone to stop locking up! Sometimes my phone will lock me out while it's ringing.....I have to reset it, which take a minute or so while it's still ringing. Try doing that in a middle of a meeting! Fun when all eyes are on you and your "fancy" i-phone! Other than that, I love my phone! Thanks T.......

MMS MMS MMS MMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can we be MORE CLEAR!
(yes i know i am yelling!!!!)
It is getting embarrassing. To add insult to injury, the website where users can view images sent by others with every other phone on the planet will not let you save the image – ATT this is NOT a substitute!!!!
This is the very loud HATE in my love/hate relationship with the iphone. If you photo texting eggheads can't figure it out let someone who can write an app. (or just approve one someone has probably already submitted) I left Palm and it looks like i am going back!!!!!!!!!

Go to Kmart – get a clue – I hear they have them on blue-light special . .

Kyln   March 16th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

(not in order of most desired)

1- Copy and Paste (within and between native and 3rd party Apps
2- Voice to text (for native apps) – although I can type quickly and well with the keyboard, it could help those compose emails and notes that don't prefer it, Wouldn't be bad for TXT messaging either
3- Landscape keyboard for native and 3rd party Apps
4- To Do syncing with Calendar (and better Calendar functions as Gignomai mentioned above
5- Search feature for all Apps
6- Better camera features/settings
7- User defined power setting/scenario features (ie one setting turnes off Bluetooth, Wifi, Brightness to lowest) (Scenario- Theater shuts off alarms, ringers, etc
8- Voice activated dial
9- Use as a flash drive to transport files (other than Apple's iPhoto and iTunes)
10- iChat
11- Better (as inmore efficient) interface to organize App icons

Nice but not needed nor do I think we'll see:

MMS- I used to be a big MMS before purchasing the iPhone (1st gen) and don't really miss this using my current 3G. If I need to show pics I've taken from my iPhone, friends can view my Twitter page. I just think it will clog up more 3G bandwidth

VIDEO- Yes every once in a while I wish I had video when I see something YouTube worthy, but again I think this won't happen until 4G network is in place due to bandwidth and the ease of which the iPhone allows people to post or email video

Johnny Mo   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

1. Flash
2. MMS
3. Landscape for all typing
4. Video recording
5. "Suggest new time" for meeting invites.

steve perkins   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

I cannot receive website information on safari on my iphone. if the site has been created in flash. When will this be corrected by apple?

James   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Why do you people need MMS? You have e-mail! just have the person send the full high-res photos to your e-mail. or how about just using the fully-functional browser to visit their online gallery or have them post stuff on facebook and look at it there. MMS is such a dated way of sending information.

wd   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

I bought the iphone over a year ago and i have to say that it is the worst phone for business. I should have waited for the Blackberry Storm. Stupid me. The iphone is more for a teenager than a business person.

Brandy   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

I'd like:

MMS
Landscape QWERTY Keyboard
Flash
Better PUSH for IM
More customization for notifications
Contact Beaming

Wm   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

1) Flash for web apps
2) VOIP – Skype and others have you beat on the PC market for this
3) Ability to use it as a modem
4) Copy/Paste
5) Right Click (double-tap maybe)?
6) Save file to phone from either email or safari
7) EASY file transfer, like a thumbdrive
8) MMS for all those above (I don't need it but this generation doesn't know how to talk on the phone with complete sentences, let alone spell everything out)
9) Yes, I'm an older guy but I've been programming for 37 years now...

Gerry   March 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

James,

You can go to a number of stores around major cities in Canada and have the phone "unlocked" ....

Then obv you can use it at Rogers. I know this info may not be helpful as you have already purchased new phones. But someone in the same spot may take advantage of this.

Definitely copy and paste is a huge one that I've been dying for, but I was also really hoping that MMS would come soon. I really hope its in 3.1 :)

semisocial   March 16th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

It's great to hear that everyone is on the same page for MMS and Landscape texting... I hope it happens soon!

A cut and paste feature as well as the forward function for texting is also something we need. The ability to modify photos would be great too. Its funny that a product so mainstream is lacking features that were introduced years ago on other much cheaper wireless phones.

patrick   March 16th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Fixed Bugs.

#1. Itunes automagically starting up and playing songs. Even when not holding the phone. Drains the battery and is just plain annoying.

#2. A visual better seperation of the voice mail and the recent calls. Very upsetting when you want to hear want a person says and you dial them before listening to their voice mail. (poor UI)

cheese42   March 16th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

I think besides what most people are saying the calendar needs you to be able to set alerts for when you want not just 2 days before the event. Also the sound for the alert, we should be able to change it. I want a loud sound because of where I work I can hear the alerts for events.

skadel   March 16th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

1. flash video
2. MMS
3. voice based directions
4. Native Lotus Notes support
5. Sirius/XM app for iphone based listening

Hari   March 16th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

flash & bluetooth data & picture transfer

RW   March 16th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

I think that they should implement the ability to download things through the iTunes app over 3G. You can with applications, why not with items in the store?

Video-record capability, maybe a better lense on the camera for better quality pictures. Flash would be great.

Agreed with letting it be used over any carrier. AT&T seems to monopolize on this and charges a bit more than standard data plans elsewhere because they know they can. At the very least, lower the price of the plans.

Chris   March 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Can we finally get an app that will just do my job?

I'm sick of having to use multiple apps to get something done.

Timothy Foster   March 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

MMS, MMS, and MMS.

What I don't get is that the system Apple is running is easy to use, but they aren't as sophisticated as most of the smart phones out there.

ejbadger   March 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

the iphone doesn't support mms because mms messages are not standardized. the format for mms is open to discussion. for example mpeg 3 vs mpeg 4, and then combine that with different standards at the carriers.

mms between blackberry and iphone users for example requires someone somewhere to transcode the format if they are different

combined with changing network spec, EVDO, 3G etc.. and you really get a mess cooking up. it will be solved but it will take money, time and computing power to get it done.

chip   March 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

MMS, CP, and how about a button to clear all the messages from SMS instead of doing one at a time.

Daniel Nieswiadomy   March 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

To everyone who has made comments:

1. Turn by turn directions already exist
2. Flash is coming – they had to work out how data storage would work
3. You can't add physical features in a software update (ie a flash for the camera or a flashing light button)
4. Copy and paste will be on this update, its already been leaked
5. Of course Apple and AT&T want to protect their revenue, this is a business after all, not a government freebie like Obama hands out

Natalie   March 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

id like the battery life to last longer. mine dies incredibly fast. i mean they just came out with the laptop battery that lasts for 8 hours. they should do something about the iphone one. not that i can really complain. im typing this during school....:P

A laser feature that will zap off the tip of nose off the type of smug @33 who uses comment space to let a previous commenter know how stupid he/she is.

Julia Peters   March 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

1. At least a 5-Megapixel camera
2. 32 GB with available flash memory slot for upgrade at affordable price
3. Enhanced Bluetooth (send pictures, audio)
4. the ability to DOWNLOAD from the internet other than from itunes.
5. Feature to record videos and sound clips
6. ability to act as a external hard drive (moving data to and fro ur pc or mac seamlessly). It needs an easy way to use iPhone as a USB storage device, without the need to download paid-for Apps (plug and play).
7. Removable Battery; and longer battery life
8. Support for MMS (Picture Messaging)
9. Ability to forward a text message
10. add a copy and paste function for more business functionality
11. add Adobe flash function
12. add ability to tether to a pc to provide web access on the pc.
13. If still with ATT, force ATT to offer cheaper monthly data plan.

KD   March 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

All I want is 32GB memory so I can ditch my Ipod and just use the iphone for everything. 32GB is available on iTouch so why not iPhone??? I could care less about MMS.

Joe   March 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Get off of At&t. Apple has full control of the support side of the iPhone. So if you have a grip about support. Apple is the one you may want to call.

Still waiting on the promised Voice Turn-by-Turn Navigation that was originally supposed to out during the 2.0 update. Does anyone know the status of this?

DigDug   March 16th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

1. Battery that lasts longer than 4H (multiple recharges per day really suck).

2. True email push – no more waiting 15-45 minutes for emails.

The above two shortfalls make iPhones basically unusable for professional use.

Gary Lackey   March 16th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Keep it simple, I am happy with rotary dial!

2) stereo bluetooth
3) voice activiated dailing (using bluetooth)
4) flash compatibility
5) copy/paste

I would like for my iPhone to have what most standard phones now have and that's the ability to shoot video. So I guess in essence a better camera phone. I think that is something they could fix or upgrade with a software.

its simple. switch to tmobile and get a good phone *G1 baby!* So happy the day this came out and sold my apple to some sucker.
A G1 can do all the apple can do *minus multi touch*. a Rooted G1 *does not void warranty* can do MORE WAY MORE than a apple!

Flash and video capture are the two most anticipated features.

A2DP (Support for Bluetooth stereo headphones) without an adapter
MMS
Flash
Video recording
Cut/Copy/Paste
A flash for the digital camera
More storage space (40GB maybe)

Andrew   March 16th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

- Automatic Spell Check
- Task Application that easily syncs with Outlook

JD   March 16th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

1. MMS
2. Voice dial: from your earbuds or bluetooth.....A MUST!!!!!!!!!! Not these other apps that make you take out your phone...open the app...then hold down a button....speak the name....then choose the person you want to call.....what a joke, it would be faster just to use the regular phone feature. Try that while your driving....not very hands free!!!!!
3. Flash!!!!
4. Did I mention Voice Dial from earbuds and bluetooth?

Tim   March 16th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

How about a discount!

That's all.

Prasad   March 16th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

A search / Find option in "CONTACTS". Several times we make little notes for each contact entered into the Iphone and it is more often than not these notes that we remember better than the name of the "Contact" or the name of his/her Company.

Patrick   March 16th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

32gb chips can be use on the iTouch, but not the phone, because the 16gb of memory is on one side and the other is the cellular chip... therefore the last iphone and current can't be 32gb.

Also who uses MMS? There is e-mail for that. MMS is dying with the age of smartphones.

How about:
1. Ability to attached more than 1 pic per email
2. Ability to run backround apps.

Neil   March 16th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

No way AT&T is out of the picture. Apple has a 5 year contract with them so get over that.

bob   March 16th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

More memory, like 160 GB.

Forward facing video camera for Skype and webcamming.

MMS.

1. At least a 5-Megapixel camera
2. 32 GB with available flash memory slot for upgrade at affordable price
3. Enhanced Bluetooth (send pictures, audio)
4. the ability to DOWNLOAD from the internet other than from itunes.
5. Feature to record videos and sound clips
6. ability to act as a external hard drive (moving data to and fro ur pc or mac seamlessly). It needs an easy way to use iPhone as a USB storage device, without the need to download paid-for Apps (plug and play).
7. Removable Battery; and longer battery life
8. Support for MMS (Picture Messaging)
9. Ability to forward a text message
10. add a copy and paste function for more business functionality
11. add Adobe flash function
12. add ability to tether to a pc to provide web access on the pc.
13. If still with ATT, force ATT to offer cheaper monthly data plan.

Julia is right, those are all appropriate, and easy to implement features, though I would add background processing, so I can receive IMs while I am doing other things on the phone or while it's screen is off, etc...

Aaron   March 16th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

I want to be able to change the channels on my television !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zack   March 16th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

I want it to check my tire pressure and shoot out a blast of scent every 5 minutes like a glade plug-in. but really, Verizon needs this phone. I hope Apple was happy with the compensation they got from AT&T, because they're losing out on a lot of business from it.

Jennifer Eppley   March 16th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

MMS for sure! I was actually thinking about dropping the iPhone and AT&T to get a cool phone with Verizon... just to have MMS. Rediculous!

Bill   March 16th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

lol i forgot how little the iphone can really do. lol

traceeinsa   March 16th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

A carrier other than AT&T!!
I know many people have issues with Sprint. And as bad as this is I have to admit that they have really improved customer service lately and have started to focus more on their existing customers than solely on new the ones.

I would love to get the iphone (I have an itouch and not having the iphone is bugging me) but for the service and package I get through Sprint with the Instinct, it's just not worth it with AT& T.

With Sprint, I have two Instincts with unlimited everything. Having a similar package with AT&T, I would pay twice what I pay with Sprint and have only one phone to show for it!

Not-A-Ninja   March 16th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

I would like an app that would turn me into a ninja. Awwww yeah – a ninja app would be cool!

Jon   March 16th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

You know I don't really understand Apple's continued ignoring of their customers. The iPhone was released in 2007 and we have been wanting MMS, copy/paste, landscape keyboard, flash. I am disappointed in Apple that they still have yet to fix the MMS issue. Every cellular phone out on the market today except the iphone has MMS. I know plenty of people that have decided not to use the iphone because of this feature missing from the phone. I really think that almost two years should be enough time for Apple programmers to get off their butts and write the code for this to happen. I've even bought the iPhone 3G thinking things would change but still nothing. Cutting edge is going downhill at Apple. Your thoughts?

Steve   March 16th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Flash is a no-go, they can't get a mobile version to run efficiently enough on the iPhone without crashing it. MMS seems like it'd be the easiest to implement, but chances are, there's some weird thing going on with AT&T where their network can't handle the added traffic. iPhone users use 10x the data of a "normal" user so with MMS I'm sure that'd skyrocket. How long do we have to wait for these huge telecoms to actually start building some infrastructure that can withstand the amount of data usage we do?

matt meyersohn   March 16th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

email search feature!! incredibly easy to do – mac osx does it amazingly well with spotlight, blackberry has done it for years... a user can simply type a few characters from the subject or sender and the emails are automatically sorted. If the iphone really wanted to be a phone that can also flourish in the business world it would never miss this feature!!

Jacob High   March 16th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

I would like software that will turn off the ringer when I am within certain designated zones. For example, when I go to church, I want to be able to tell the iphone to switch to vibrate whenever I'm within X number of yards of church. Then, when I leave the zone, the phone would switch back to ringing. This software would rely on GPS location services and allow the user to specify an unlimited number of "no-ring" zones based on GPS proximity.

Pam   March 16th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

The Exchange Email is made for only talking to Exchange servers that set out on the Internet.

So, they need an app that is like the Xpress Mail, and Blackberry Desktop redirector, that will forward mail from the desktop, without talking directly to Exchange.

Kyle   March 16th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Use my home WiFi as network for normal calling. Even if i'm charged minutes, this would be great.

I have few bars reception at home, but i have WiFi.

If i can do other stuff using wifi, why not calls?

Short of this, i'll need to invest in a cellular signal repeater.

AL   March 16th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

TETHERING!!!

Keith Steunebrink   March 16th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Most people have email access on their phone, so I do not understand why people are so up in arms about MMS. One thing that has not been brought up is the ability to "beam" contacts to another phone. With the lack of a IR port on the phone this could be achieved with Bluetooth. Copy and paste which is said to be coming will be a welcome change as well. I am tired of have to write information down on paper only to open a different app in the phone and then re type it.

Bob   March 16th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Competition in carriers is my number one priority.

AT&T would charge an additional $800 per year for the service plan. This is preventing me from buying an iPhone.

Different Dan   March 16th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Some of the things people on this list are asing for are hardware issue. This is an operating system upgrade. Flash isn't an option because it requires more processor power than you can put in the phone, What is funny is how many of the things people describe as desires are actually available (like calendar and downloading from other than iTunes).

As for me, I really want copy/paste and MMS. MMS is a must because the iPhone sells poorly in Japan where they use MMS extensively. I'd also like to be able to do landscape keyboard for all applications, not just the web. (Although there are 3rd party free programs to do just that.)

All in all, a very good platform and light years (still) ahead of anything else on the market. Clearly some hardware improvements like a faster processor (for Flash), a better camera with video support, and a flash would be helpful, but one thing at a time.

Andy   March 16th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Themes, MMS, video recorder, copy/paste, background applications, folders for apps. organize the screen through iTunes....

John   March 16th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

All I want to see are the iPhone users dissapointed again....

My windows mobile phones have been able to do more than an iPhone can do even now: MMS, Bluetooth transfer, copy/paste, record audio/video, download anything I want, tether to a PC to share internet, and SO MUCH MORE.

Apple users, eat your hearts out. You may be sexy, but you will never be as powerful or versital as a PC.

Paul   March 16th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

The iPhone is one of the best phone's I've ever had. Unfortunately Apple's continued arrogance towards its customers is why the iPhone, like the Mac, will probably remain a small niche player in the market instead of the market dominator that it certainly could be. No Flash? No MMS? Not even cut & paste? You can't save an email attachment? No device encryption (goodbye corporate America)? Only support for one carrier? No motion video? A battery that consumers can't replace? In 2009? You're kidding right???

Apple...a good company with generally great products that apparently will always be a small company from a market share perspective.... What a shame!

Ahlam   March 16th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Ok honestly, it looks like Apple caught everyone's attention with their iPhone a few years ago. Sure it looks neat, but when it comes down to REAL performance, the iPhone is surpassed by many others ( non Apple of course). No MMS, Flash, copy paste...Come on. Most Sony Ericsson have had video calling for years ( even though it isn t fully supported in US yet, but it will soon and then Apple will still be left behind).

Don   March 16th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

I cannot beleive anyone would manufacture a so called "High End" phone and not include A2DP support. Most joggers and bike riders do not desire to have wires hanging out everywhere while listening to thier headphones. Until then, I amny of me freinds refuse to purchase an iphone. Also, iphone users, don't try to download anything on your phone unless you cater the the monopollized "Itunes".

John   March 16th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

You're all assuming it doesn't do MMS because it "can't" – it doesn't do MMS because they don't want it to. MMS will be outdated in 1-2 years when almost all phones will email. They're trying to help kill the format.

Speech-to-text voicemail. Google's got it coming, Vonage has it, get on it. Also, flash and DEFINITELY background apps. Pandora while doing anything else would be nice. Also, it would be nice to be able to continue what you're doing in an App after receiving a text or call. Need that multi tasking ability.

I want a new product created called the "iEverything" which will be an iPhone & iPod built all into one 150 GB system that will sell for approximately $850-$950 and eliminate the need for both. It will have 3G, copy/paste, easy download of all apps and music, you can plug it into your Wii and play any song it has with Guitar Hero, etc.

Let's go Apple – we can do this! (and then give me a cut for the idea of the "iEverything"

I don't have one but here it goes:
ability for the iphone to be a universal tv remote
hardware to detect temperature change and app to take temp
ultra highpitch speaker for Dog training.
An a bar code app to allow the Iphone to be an iCredit Card
A self defense "911" find me app.
Lojack for iphone
app for phone to be used as a hearing aid like device to amp sound.

Greg   March 16th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Email that works for those that actually use email. For example, ability to mass delete emails so that you don't have to do them one by one, something better than that Edit button. A single folder that stores all new emails so you don't have to go into each 'Inbox' email folder for each POP3 account. It also needs to have a notice on the locked screen that says you have received new mail and in which box. How am i supposed to remember I had 45 new emails before and now I have 47? And in which mail box did the new ones go?

The iphone is a great product. Still a long way from nice mail technology and interface, like the BB.

Yup, that would be nice...

How about voice tags for contacts? I had this with my old cheap phone.

Antiverizon   March 16th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

People are excited about MMS, but really, you can take a picture and email it (and a lot more) with two touches of the finger. The problem is only if your friend's phone is unable to receive the email. So they should buy a better phone.

Regarding flash, no phone has flash right now. This will come with time, but requires a rewrite of flash AND faster processors to make the experience worthwhile. When it is ready, iPhone will have it.

CNN should run a post asking what people want added to their crappy phones that have MMS but not much more. Like 15000 apps and best in class GUI. All the Verizon fanboys should stop answering this post. Face, AT&T does actually have the largest, most reliable network. Verizon bought Alltel to inflate their numbers. If Verizon's antiquated network was able to support the iPhone, then Apple would sell if for Verizon.

Reid Greven   March 16th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Good golly, you people are spoiled!

2 years ago you didn't have jack squat, then Apple released a device that revolutionized the mobile world, and now you act like a bunch of spoiled Pre-Schoolers that have to wait 30 seconds for their mac-n-cheese to be ready!

Instead of appreciating incredible advancements, you complain because it doesn't have that ONE particular feature that you think you can't live without. But once you get it, it will sure enough be something else that you find to complain about...

Like the fact that you have to actually LOOK at it to watch movies....

Geesh. Maybe tomorrow they should take some features away, just to give us all a reality check...

Hands free calling.
= I touch my bluetooth and say who I want to call

This is supposed to be a phone, right?

Donn Mukensnable   March 16th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Full Bluetooth support – downloads, uploads, stereo headsets, devices other than headsets, etc.

Keith   March 16th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I want the ability to have my contact list put into categories without haveing to export or import from the PC. When adding a contact I want to mark the contact as businees, personal, family, etc.... The palm phone handles this very well with no importing.

Orlando   March 16th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

FLASH won't happen with the current hardware wishful thinking but not realistic

MMS/copy paste/A2DP would be nice

MBJ   March 16th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Skype!!!!!!

ali   March 16th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

why is there nothing on the iphone that will allow me to chat live with other friends who have an iphone? the blackberry has their version of messenger. this saves hundreds of dollars on text messaging. it's ridiculous that apple doesn't have something. How about iChat for the iPhone??????????????

Brian   March 16th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

- a black list for phone numbers.
- ability to change voice mail, text message sound effects just like I can do for incoming phone calls.
- Missed phone call, missed text message support that works like all my previous phones. Have it re-ring or beep every few minutes.
- flash support in safari.

Stephen   March 16th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

It sounds silly and small but it would be nice if the iPhone's iCal carried over my "to-do" list from my Mac. I use my iPhone as a PDA (replaced Treo and Palm) and everyone I've had before did this simple function. I called Apple about it assuming I just didn't know how to turn this function on. But it turns out this isn't currently possible and there isn't an app to help. The tech person seemed clueless as why this might be desirable. Normally, Apple staff are fantastic. Surprised at this oversight. For a "smartphone" it's not very smart.

iPhoneOwner   March 16th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Listen to all of you people bashing the iPhone and don't even own one please just stop.

Half of you people don't even know how good of a phone it is or half of it's features, all you are concerned about is the negative side of it and what it doesn't have.

This is by far the BEST phone I have ever owned and as long as they keep coming out with updated models this will be the only phone I ever have. It is great, serves every purpose that I want/need it for and is just a fun phone to have.

So please just stop focusing on the bad side of something, if you hate it so much why do you keep complaining about it unless you just have nothing better to do.

chris   March 16th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Flash support willl NEVER happen....flash support = the end of the AppStore since all those apps could be done in flash and thus Apple wouldnt get ANY money for them!!!

Saby Sadanand   March 16th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Syncing with iCal preferably over bluetooth

willie   March 16th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

How about a Starcraft app. Also, fried chicken would be nice.

Alex   March 16th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

I want the iphone to be able to open/close my garage door, work as the remote for my home (lights, curtains, etc.) and home entertainment system instead of that chunky touchscreen remote i have now, i want it to cook me breakfast every morning, i want it to drive me to work, AND mms!

mike   March 16th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

want MMS? get an Instinct.
want turn-by-turn nav? get an Instinct
want landscape QWERTY typing? get an Instinct.
want a real phone that works like a phone on a real network that doesn't drop you every few minutes? get an Instinct.

feel like getting bent over month after month by AT&T/Apple just so you can say, "I've got an iPhone?" be my guest.

James Valenti   March 16th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Don't do anything that might lead to instability or longer synch times.

LG   March 16th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

1. MMS
2. Search for email
3. Go to Date in Calendar
4. Exchange sync for Notes and Tasks
5. Unread email/sms count on top bar (like blackberry)
6. Keyboard in landscape for ALL apps
7. Real turn-by-turn GPS app (e.g. TeleNav)

Bob Kay   March 16th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Ability to mark mail in any account as SPAM......

Steve   March 16th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

How about a real native device encryption product? Until it has this, most businesses won't take it seriously.

Ian B   March 16th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Multiple user profiles, with security rights by application. For instance, this is the only phone I have, I use a passcode to unlock the phone. But I may not want my child to have access to certain apps when she uses it, I'd like to be able to set up a passcode just for her with access to the phone and a few specific apps.

I'd also like to see an option on the passcode screen for user info, such as "I'm Lost!". This way you can put in contact info that a person can review if they find your phone, rather than having to use some 3rd party app or a background that I'm not fond of.

I'd also like to see the GPS follow me as I drive, rather than me having to move the screen.

Rafael   March 16th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

Spell Check on email.

Nick   March 16th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

VoiP over 3G. Since we have unlimited data, why not use it to talk to people. We are paying for it already.

Nacho   March 16th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

A Calendar alarm that doesn't show up as a stupid dot every day. How about just an alarm through Calendar? That can be synced with iCal?

GW   March 16th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

apple is making some really poor choices.

att is awful. monopolizing is awful- should be illegal.

outside programmers have already created the programs we want (that apple and att have failed to deliver)

crack the phone. leave att. move on.

Shep   March 16th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

Flash won't be on the iPhone for a while because you can develop applications on it. And Apple want's to be in control of what apps you have on your iPhone, and with Flash people could develop things that they don't want on there, it sort of opens up the phone to much for them.

Natalie   March 16th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

FINALLY – Copy and Paste.... I might have hated my blackberry, but that at least had a functional 'mouse'.

So yeah:
MMS
Video
Multiple album creation on the phone
Flash
NO POP-ups on websites!
I wish Pandora would play on even if you were using other apps, like the iPod feature does. what's up with that?

TK   March 16th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

Flash is a bloated dying pig. THAT'S why it won't be there (in it's present form).

You can OF COURSE schedule ANY INTERVAL. Open your prefs. DUH. I have a scheduled "reoccurance" every 3 days. No problems scheduling THAT.

As for "catching up" with the Pre? HAHAHAHA. Last I heard, this was Palm's last ditch effort to SURVIVE. All they've had for the last 5 years is Windoze and outdated hardware. It's nice to see competition for the iPhone, but Palm is on a respirator.

I'm not a fan-boy, but GIVE ME A BREAK with all the APPL bashing. The company is doing well despite the economy. What's wrong with THAT?

Issa Drame   March 16th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Native Lotus Notes support

Derek   March 16th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

Android Android Android

My G1 has
MMS
Video
A2DP support coming soon
Web Based Flash coming soon
Telenav Turn by Turn GPS

I can't really think of a feature that iphone has that android doesn't except maybe Exchange push support and Multi touch.

In the next year, iphone is going to have so much competition from the Open Handset Alliance they'll only be able to hang on to the tru macboys.

1) Integrated (one inbox) email with search
2) Real address book integration (e.g., like Blackberry Lookup)
3) Cut/Copy and Paste
4) Tap to call on phone numbers with conf. codes in meeting invites
5) Ability to invite people to meetings
6) Flash video

Dudley   March 16th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

MMS? Who cares? Anyone ever wonder why Japanese don't use MMS? It's because it's old and antiquated - SO 5 years ago! If you don't have a phone with e-mail, which is 10 Billion times more useful than MMS, then you're wasting your time. On that note, Apple, let's see landscape typing and viewing in e-mail. The touch screen is a great keyboard when it's wide enough to get both your hands on it. Make everything with type landscape compatible. I can't really see a reason not to.

DaVon   March 16th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

I would very much like to see a removable battery – so I don't have to send it to apple for replacement. Also, I would like to see a memory card slot. Is this too far fetched for you, Apple?!?

noah   March 16th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

my iPhone should:
Solve world hunger;
fly;
arrest criminals;
legally print money;
give the homeless mental health care and job training;
improve public transit;

Ability to mark Calendar items as private from your phone.

My daughter (4) loves to watch kids podcasts, but she figured out how to delete apps and photos from the phone. I would love to see a "enter passwor" to remove apps and photos.

Julie   March 16th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Better built-in task management system. Currently the freebie applications that I have seen for this are not very good and I don't think that I should have to buy a feature that is automatically included in other comparable phones.

eric   March 16th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

How about a feature that eliminates DROPPED CALLS!

I have a visual handicap. I really like the iPhone but the text is difficult to read and see due to the small size. I’d like to see an iPhone that gives people with visual handicaps the option to increase the size of text.

ZayLay   March 16th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

Teathering your iphone to your laptop to use it's 3G access for the internet is a must have. oh yeah, and not having flash will never happen as they are trying to re-invent the web in 3D with css :(

1. MMS
2. Flash
3. Video Recording
4. Landscape or Portrait typing in ANY mode
5. Faster shutter speed through firmware on camera
6. voice dialing (through phone not AT&T's paid service)
7. Push data abilities like all other smartphones
8. Different email signatures for different email accounts
9. better email overall... (better notification service)
10. i'm in the habit of hitting the home button and sliding to unlock all in one motion... if there is a calendar appointment or alarm it comes up when the phone is locked and disappears when the phone is unlocked... make a "dismiss" button so the notification stays up until i tell it to go away.
11. ability to create folders to group apps/photos etc.

basically everything we can do on jailbroken phones w/o being S.O.L. when it gets bricked :)

Elise   March 16th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

I'd like to see Flash, like just about everybody else. But we all know that's not coming anytime soon.

A few small things, though...
I'd like to be able to change the colors of my chat bubbles in the SMS app, like you can on Apple's iChat, so I can color code my running messages and easily be able to tell whose message is up on the screen before I start sending messages to the wrong people, as I sometimes text multiple people at once.

I'd also like to be able to plug it in to my MINI Cooper and not have it tell me, "This accessory is not designed to work with iPhone. Would you like to turn on airplane mode to reduce interference?" I'd like to be able to tell it no once, and have it remember that. Or just not ask at all if airplane mode is disabled, or something. It's annoying.

One more small, probably easy to fix thing... I'd like to be able to use custom ringtones for my text messages as well as calls. The ones the phone comes with aren't loud enough if you keep it at the bottom of a purse.

fireflycruise   March 16th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Better Audiobook handling like:
1) Auto jump back after long pause to remind me of where I was in the story.
2) Move FF and REW buttons away from the pause button so I don't accidentally hit them
3) A jump back 1 minute button for those times when I space out or am distracted.

PIRATEJ   March 16th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

i can already receive pics i just tell everyone to add my email on to there contact list pretty freaking simple and i when i want to send a mms somebody all i do is send it to there number with area code @mms.att.net and there is no need to jailbreak the phone.

AT&T Rocks   March 16th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

I don't think that Apple will be going away from AT&T anytime soon. AT&T was the only provider that took the risk with going to the iPhone, site unseen, and now they are loving the benefits of it. You might as well come over to the best network around.

Ryan   March 16th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

I went to get a G1 a few days ago and walked out once i realized the iPhone was going to be updated soon.I had went to get the iPhone until i realized it had no MMS. I can't believe this phone can't do that. It is the only thing keeping me from the iphone and they can't get it right this time I'm done waiting. Apple is really dropping the ball on this.

Bryan   March 16th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Everyone has been complaining about the lack of MMS since the iphone came out. Why don't they just add it. Everyone complains, look at the list on this page alone. Simple things like this is what infuriates me about Apple.

The People – "Hey Apple, we want MMS text and a Flash on the iphone. Almost every other SmartPhone has these features."

Apple – "Nah you don't need it. We're Apple... we dictate what people want and need. So if we don't put it on our product, you don't need it. Nuff said"

CGL   March 16th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Forget Flash. iPhone's building support for open 2D and 3D animation standards; let Adobe and MSFT wrestle over the crumbs.

Copy & Paste method needed to be harmonized with the upcoming Apple netbook. iPhone can send images via email–MMS will be nice, but isn't crucial. Also Real Soon Now – Bluetooth data exchange.

Next up: AAPL netbook will have exclusive ubiquitous connectivity with VZW.

Joe McCorkle   March 16th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Throw away you P.C's THEY ARE JUNK!! I threww all of mine away and have never had a problem with a Mac or an IPhone. The minor inconvienience of not having flash or mms far out weighs the PITA of any other solution.

Guyne   March 16th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

How about voice dialing? I don't understand why my iPhone doesn't have this, but the three previous phones I had were capable of it.

Brian Murray   March 16th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Allow the iPhone to function as a 3G Modem.

Adam   March 16th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

I want my iPhone to go out and buy beer for me.

MMS would be nice, too.

Kevin   March 16th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

Set the background image as a to do/new emails/sports scores. Palm has been doing this for years. It's annoying to unlock and check my calendar.

RJ   March 16th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

The ability to alter the sounds of the iPhone (ringtone, slider sounds, etc) w/o having to hack the phone. The thing is a MP3 player, yet you cannot use any custom sounds. And some of us want things that you can't get from phone carriers. I doubt they will have 15 year old SNES music, for example! The ringer selection is too limited: Most of the default ones are annoying, thus as a result probably %80 of the people I know use the old school telephone noise as their ringtone...which of course causes problems because everyone goes to reach for their phone at the sametime...

Ying   March 16th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

1. Micro/Mini USB for charging. I am on the road a lot so i don't want to carry another cable.
2. iPhone not to be locked to itunes. That is the worst piece of software I've ever used. I mean why do you have to rename and hide all my songs.
3. MMS. It has internet, camera, touchscreen but not MMS???
4. A removable battery.

Shea McNamara   March 16th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

Enough with the flash and MMS.

Video Chat would be the kicker... I could care less about recording video or sending MMS messages..

Dennis   March 16th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

How about the ability to selectively delete "Recent Calls" ??

D'oh ....

juanitoenmiami   March 16th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

What a bunch of loosers. You should've checked the phone before you signed that 2 year contract!! LOL

Dave   March 16th, 2009 4:44 pm ET

Huh? What are all these websites that you can't get to without flash? I don't want the giant floating snake ads to start showing up in my Mobile Safari...not having flash is the best ad-blocker there is. And all those flash games that I can't play? There are 25,000 apps out there...a clone exists for every flash game, probably for free. Is it some online audio or video? Complain to the content provider...there are plenty of streaming audio and video formats the iPhone DOES support that don't require proprietary Flash.

Tom M.   March 16th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

WEEKLY view of my calendar!

Angie A.   March 16th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

Hmmm, maybe I'll stay on my Moto Razor and Verizon. I'm quite happy.

Dave   March 16th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

I'd rather Apple spent their time supporting iChat / XMPP clients (like Google Talk) via push notification. Then you can share multimedia over these internet chat protocols rather than slow and expensive MMS.

I want to be able to send text messages to a Japanese cell phone. I have not found a way to send text messages to my brother in Tokyo from my iPhone even though with my old Motorola flip phone I could text him without a problem.

I'd simply like to place a call from within a meeting notice. On my old phone, if there was a phone # contained w/in a calendar item, i could simply call it. With the iPhone, I have to remember the # or write it down & then enter the phone app to place the call....

Death! I dont like the iphone and all the yuppies that are always on it. Get over it, it is a nice MP3 player phone-great. (ohh but cromag game is soo important)

David   March 16th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

I would like the ability and the memory to review raw camera files when a photo is taken from a good camera. The screen is certainly capable of showing very nice images. Photographers are paying up to $800 for viewing devices. This would make for a nice two for one.

Jake   March 16th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

Mine's jailbroken. I can pretty much do everything people are requesting here. Apple should open the phone up for more customization. Since mine's jailbroken, I have exactly what I want. I'm happy.

Henry Halley   March 16th, 2009 5:39 pm ET

It appears to me that the Iphone is suffering from a social disconnection disfunction akin to human autism.

No ability to communicate in a coherent, cohesive manner. Unresponsive to customer requests, unresponsive to customer stimulation and ignoring what customers want by living in their own proprietary fantasy world.

I wish Apple wold allow other carriers to use the Iphone like Verizon. Would be great. I am sure a lot of people woud switch over. Or if on At&t you can add friends and family where you can call up to 10 people on different carriers and not use minutes; I would totally switch

John Paul Mitchell   March 16th, 2009 11:05 pm ET

An AT&T employee told me to expect MMS in the next update.

LisaW   March 17th, 2009 12:22 am ET

I wish Apple would have normal ringtones, improved volume control (I'm always missing calls because I don't hear the ringer) and have a reminder sound every minute or two until I realize that I missed a call/voicemail/text. These are very basic phone features that the iPhone is lacking.

Chooly   March 17th, 2009 2:50 am ET

it should be called iGadget from now on.
as it does everything except phone like basic stuff.

oh! I just remembered that my Ericson GH 388 used to forward text messages.

Enjoy!

iPhone Hater   March 17th, 2009 4:00 am ET

iPhone Needs to go away. PDA's and Palm were first in touch technology. iPhone wants to be like everyone else. I am pretty amazed at how many people had never seen a touch screen before. Why not get the new Samsung Omnia i900. It is much better and offers everything you all have been asking for in the previous comments.

ttirremerritt   March 17th, 2009 4:03 am ET

record and send video message
also webcam (ichat)

Mark   March 17th, 2009 8:57 am ET

VIDEO, VIDEO, VIDEO, VIDEO, VIDEO!!!!!!! HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT FOR VIDEO!!! Come on Apple! I mean even the simplest of flip phones have video recording capabilities these days. Why can't something as complicated and sophisticated as the iPhone allow for video recording?! PALLEEEEASE!!

How about they fix the problems they created with the 2.0 upgrade that made the phones stop syncing with the Chyrsler/Dodge UConnect in their cars?

Michael F   March 17th, 2009 10:59 am ET

How about a touchscreen that functions properly?

Mike   March 17th, 2009 11:02 am ET

You mean the iphone wannabe the pre will never be up to date with the iphone. If it was not for Apple these other complacent companies would be still selling their old crap to us the consumers.

Jeff H   March 17th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Why in the world doesn't the APPLE (aka iTUNES) iPhone have stereo bluetooth? Am I the only person on the planet that cares about this?

Nice post.

Ryan   March 17th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

I have not seen a suggestion yet that is not available on my FULLY UNLOCKED AND JAILBROKEN iPhone.

You people are the ones that need to get with it and JAILBREAK your iPhones already. What is stopping you???

Ryan   March 17th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Seriously, why aren't you people jailbreaking your iPhones???

I am patiently waiting for a response to that...

Gump619   March 17th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

I just want two things and I'm happy. The first was already mentioned at not being in 3.0 which is the MMS stuff. But if they don't include native support for MMS, why not pass the login/pass to safari when you click the stupid Viewmymessage.com link? It's not realistic to check that stuff if you dont have a piece of paper to write down the info, or another pc. Copy paste will help a little I guess.

Flash has been a LONG time coming too. I remember after it was launched they stated they were working with Adobe on it.

"Seriously, why aren’t you people jailbreaking your iPhones???"

AT&T Death Star, orbiting high above, coud disable all you phones forever
Apple Logo has only one bite taken out, - Why ? –the poision worm ended the jailbreakers enjoyment, permanently ? - These are the real meanings, comply or be disabled. - Your profile will be correlated and uploaded to all the NSA databases - unemployable forever, ex-phone jailbreaker, you are. - Is it worth the risk ? just sludgehammer it, (while no one is looking)

Ryan   March 17th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Franko,

That is the biggest load of crap I've ever laid eyes on. If any of you believe that you are insane. Jailbreak your iPhone with ease of mind that it can't and will never happen.

Geeze I almost fell out of my chair laughing reading that. Talk about paranoia...

Kang   March 17th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

No MMS and No Background Apps. Ehh, they introduced both. Thats what you get for quoting someone from Digg lol.

theshank   March 17th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

But can it open a bottle of your favorite beverage ? No ? In that case I will keep the Swiss Army knife . iPhone is way over hyped and overpriced .

Just say no to the madness.

Franko   March 17th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

Ryan;

Allan Turing was profiled, his life tortured, miserable
Left behing an Allple, missng a few bytes
Now the profiling is accurately down to jailbroken phones
Break the jailbars, and the Apple will Eat You !

Stephen Hultgren   March 18th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

I think it is almost criminal in this day and age they would skimp, on an under a buck part, like a telecoil adapter... that would make it accessible to the hearing impaired. for shame

Bri   March 18th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Goofy Gore uses an iPhone (an effective, low CO2, fashion accessory)
Orator Obama, no nonsense, down to business, not a strawberry personality

Obama can solve the Guardian Knot of economic confidence ?
Calculate, inspire the bankers, to reach for the stars, and greater bonuses
Not with an iBerry, but with a BlackBerry

Can I ask a question?

Do you guys have good service where you live? Of course I will like to say that location, does matter. Here for example, the service ain't that great, I guess unless if you have Wi-Fi but the only reason I'm asking because sometimes, not all the time, it ain't good. And some of the boys have it and pending where they at, they can send or surf ot not, it depends. It doesn't happen a lot, only as couple of times but "supposedly", we got word from our sources that on the beginning of January, it was gonna be better. Unfortunately we don't wanna find out...

Boy, that iPhone is pretty high-tech, huh? I will admit the applications are pretty cool, I ain't picky and with that stuff they have, it is pretty cool. But come on AT&T!! Don't do our neighborhood bogus...

Franko   March 22nd, 2009 1:56 pm ET

Buying Apple, and supporting AT&T is enhancing U$ security
Loose yout iPhone, if a terrorist finds it, he will be easier to track

alivenbreathing   March 24th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

if Apple would have their developers brainstorm with younger people who are hearing impaired they could corner the market for all ages. I'm a very young 30 years old and I recently obtained Siemens Motion 500 CIC(completely in the canal) hearing aids for $4k+. They work with the iPhone intermittently, but it has its problems (I basically talk into a 'walkie-talkie'). All they would need to do is sit down with individuals who are trying to integrate these technological capabilities into their lives, and I think we could come up with advances that the general population would enjoy as well. Imagine wearing a bluetooth controller no bigger than a spherical quarter that could act as a relay transmitter as well as doubling as a microphone and a controller with a few small buttons; it would be just like the earbuds that come with the iPhone, except completely wireless!!!

May I thank you for adding that astonishing info. I have learned a lot from it. To run a home office is very challenging. One has to be disciplined and work hard, fulfill every task organized and structured in order to overcome all these disturbances and disruptions. To stay organized with my emails I use Email Sorter Wizard, a MS Outlook add-in that helps me to stay organized with my inbox too. Using Email Sorter Wizard is like having a personal email assistant that takes care of a cluttered inbox and gets everything organized. Interesting post and I am sure every reader enjoyed reading it.
