Megan Fox, Sarah Palin sent to hell

Play different Circles of Hell

Marketing an upcoming video game is a difficult balance between showing enough to excite gamers and spoiling the story by giving away too much.

Electronic Arts is taking a different approach by using Web-based games to promote “Dante’s Inferno” (Visceral Games), a video game loosely based on Dante Alighieri’s epic poem about one man’s journey through the afterlife. The game focuses on a trip through hell, emphasizing its nine levels and seven deadly sins.

So to get gamers in the mood, EA created two Facebook applications called “Go To Hell” and “Battle of the Damned." “Go To Hell” gives Facebook users the opportunity to banish someone, or something, to a level of hell. Once the person has been banished, other users can vote to further punish or absolve them.

So far more than 9,600 “souls” have been sent to hell, and EA Senior Product Manager Phil Marineau says no one is immune. “You can send any group or Facebook friend to Hell,” he says. The most-banished entity? Electronic Arts itself.

Runners-up: "Transformers" actress Megan Fox (sent most often to Lust and Greed) and politician-turned-author Sarah Palin (Treachery, Fraud, Heresy, Lust, and Greed).

The idea behind the app is to get gamers familiar with the nine circles of hell they will encounter in "Dante’s Inferno.”

“Battle of the Damned” allows players to traverse through different levels of hell in a quest to face off with Lucifer himself.

“They [Facebook games] are becoming platforms in and of itself,” says Marineau, who believes using social media to promote video games is likely to increase because of the one-on-one communication it offers between developers and fans.

“Dante’s Inferno” will be released on February 5 in North America and February 12 in Asia for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is rated M (blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, sexual content).

As lord Conrad Black's partner, David Radler, commented;
A newsroom consists of two adversing salesmen and one reporter

Greg   January 6th, 2010 11:36 am ET

This is dumbest news article that I have ever read. Thanks for wasting 3 minutes of my life CNN.

Vinnie Bartilucci   January 6th, 2010 11:52 am ET

This is the same game that caught some...flak for a promotion at the San Diego Comic Con. To celebrate the "Lust" circle of Hell, people were asked to "Commit an act of lust" with a booth babe (One of the comely hostesses companies hire to attract attention to their displays) and submit a photo of same. The prize was "a night out with two hot babes".

More and more, companies seem to need to hire one more person. After the "Wouldn't this be cool?" department comes up with an idea, it needs to be forwarded to the "Yes, but wouldn't it also be incredibly stupid?" department.

john   January 6th, 2010 11:56 am ET

This is dumb.

Tito   January 6th, 2010 12:28 pm ET

Yeesh... everything I hear about this game makes it sound like a dumber "God of War" clone. EA is pretty shameless.

yasmine   January 6th, 2010 1:04 pm ET

What are these games that people are keep making ,the only thing its teaching kids is only violence.

yasmine   January 6th, 2010 1:06 pm ET

We are supposed to learn from Daunte's poem not make games out of it.

RJS3   January 6th, 2010 1:11 pm ET

It is interesting the choices we make when we are given the power to condemn people's souls, even if that power is imaginary. We are so quick to judge others, but fail to look at ourselves and see where we may end up.
Pardon my philosophical moment.

Michael   January 6th, 2010 2:02 pm ET

Great idea. People can get familiar with their final destinations so there won't be any surprises when Jesus doesn't find their names in the Book of Life.

christy   January 6th, 2010 3:00 pm ET

Sounds misogynistic to me. Look how boys who become men are conditioned to throw the attractive or savvy female into "hell".

Eric   January 6th, 2010 3:09 pm ET

first to comment, yea!!!

why sent megan fox to hell? now a bunch of guys will go to hell on purpose...

Chris B.   January 6th, 2010 4:25 pm ET

Haha, too funny.

If only the actual game was interesting and thoughtful instead of a blatant rip-off of God of War.

Austin   January 12th, 2010 1:16 pm ET

i really want this video game to come out because iit looks like world of warcraft. World of warcraft rules!!! l,,,l

Cliff   January 12th, 2010 3:27 pm ET

Yasmine, video games do not teach violence. It is part of our world. I did not have video games as a child. More than a few of my green army men died in combat and my Fisher-Price Jetliner crashed killing some or all the passengers and crew from time to time. Some people may read The Inferno after playing though so that would be a good thing

Christy, it would be misogynistic if you could not send all the males on your friends list to Hell also

I do not mean to sound like I am attacking anything you said. The other posts do not lend themselves to conversation.

My $0.02

Cliff   January 12th, 2010 3:35 pm ET

And if this game is successful at all it will once again prove the axiom “No one ever went broke underestimating intelligence of the American consumer”

Mike   January 12th, 2010 9:34 pm ET

Thank you Cliff.
Some people might have given $5.00, but you did better by accomplishing the same with only $0.02.

Sam   January 14th, 2010 10:56 am ET

Faceyawn... D- story about a D Game by a F- company. Despite that I'm sure a good percentage of the people who went to see Ferngully the 3D version (Ava... something, you know the one) will toss out more money on this junk.

Yasmine, parents teach children. Educators teach children. Video games entertain; if a child is learning from an entertainment device then the parent is at fault for not guiding and monitoring.

Christy your comment is ridiculous. Way to do your part in setting back the effort to stop sexism.

Cliff/Mike, I guess this was more than 2¢; hopefully less than $5.

José   January 14th, 2010 1:04 pm ET

This is great. We can finally vent our frustration out on those who oppose our will and otherwise generally annoy the bejesus out of us! Now if only I could shoot lightning bolts out of my fingers and make fairy tales that people must use to oppress other people with, then I'd be feeling quite olympic! Anyone got a bedsheet we could singe the edge of and call it a shroud? Mine was reposessed when I lost my job and house and car and all my other belongings after the republican tsunami that washed away our jobs to India, money to faith based programs, and all rights and privacy from our country from 2000 – 2008 and left devastation that will take centuries to repair! Go Sarah 2011!

Andrew   January 14th, 2010 2:28 pm ET

So...EA has taken a classic philosophical poem and turned it into a God of War rip-off? Way to treat the intellectual property with respect.

Jacob   January 15th, 2010 12:09 pm ET

I find it funny that everyone keeps referring to kids playing this game. It is rated M for Mature which means you should be 17. I hope parents are not letting kids play this game and stores are not allowing kids to buy it.

jon   January 15th, 2010 10:37 pm ET

christy as it is said that over 70% of facebook traffic is done by women its not the men sending her to hell its jealous self imporant feminist women

and how can you judge a game that has'nt come out yet it mite just shock you, and atleast the ad campain is orginal

VegasNerd   January 17th, 2010 5:07 am ET

Palin is not an author - she doesn't have the skills to read history, much less write a book: that, as far as she is concerned, is what ghost writers are for.

Spence   January 18th, 2010 3:02 pm ET

There is nothing quite like a liberal democrat to do something that means absolutely nothing, and then have them strut around like it does.

Fusillade   January 18th, 2010 6:52 pm ET

Greg, if this is the dumbest article you have ever read then you don't read much. Count yourself blessed.

Porn Addict   January 18th, 2010 6:52 pm ET

This is an insult to Sarah Pallin who is merely representing republican interests and lie detectors are not permitted to be used in the white house. For Megan Fox, if lust were so evil then the Pope lived in hell for decades thinking he'd go to heaven for it.
There are better and more uplifting games in the marketplace other than this without as much hell coded into it.

nathan   January 19th, 2010 1:59 pm ET

you guys all need to get a life, complaining about something your probably going to play anyways. go get a real job and life that doesn't include internet surfing.

Nighthawk620   January 19th, 2010 2:22 pm ET

I think the majority of Americans no longer have any grasp of reality.
(Myself included!) We waste or time on stuff like this! Haiti? Waht about Haiti? I want Fox and Palin in hell!!!

heeeeyyyyy   January 20th, 2010 4:18 pm ET

These have got to be some of the worst comments I have ever seen.. You all should be ashamed..

Aiden Thompson   April 26th, 2010 9:08 am ET

I idolize Sarah Palin because she is a woman with very strong character. She has also lots of accomplishments in the area of public service.+

Ed   September 26th, 2010 10:11 am ET

How stupid?

Some people have way too much free time on their hands.

Christopher Mills   October 5th, 2010 3:45 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a very intelligent woman in my opinion~;~

scitech.blogs.cnn.com   April 18th, 2011 6:50 pm ET

Megan fox sarah palin sent to hell.. I like it :)

Nerissa Malabe   April 26th, 2011 4:28 am ET

There is actually noticeably a lot of money to understand about this particular. I assume you made certain nice factors in functions additionally.

Science Experiments for Kids   July 10th, 2011 7:16 pm ET
