Tropics brace for the Ike & Hanna show

Position of the three tropical systems as of 11am ET Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center

The good news? Josephine is well out in the mid-Atlantic, and if its track holds, it will stay there.
The wobbly path of Tropical Storm Hanna continues, and as of 11am ET Thursday, the best guess of the National Hurricane Center is that the storm will strengthen to a Category One hurricane and make landfall, perhaps near Wilmington, North Carolina, at about midnight Friday. Hanna could spread its damage all the way up the US East Coast as it tracks toward the northeast.

Hurricane Ike could be a big one. It strengthened from a Category One to Category Four storm in less than half a day yesterday, and its current track could bring it into south Florida on Tuesday as a Cat Three. Ike's entry into the Gulf of Mexico is still a strong possibility.

One reason for the projected weakening of the storm is that Hanna could steal some of Ike's thunder (and winds, and rain), according to CNN Meteorologist Rob Marciano: Tropical systems stir up deeper, colder water, and some of the ruckus that Hanna has caused. As Ike passes over that cooler surface water, it could be weakened just a bit.

It would be good if that happens, but doubt it.....
as said before ...God has something to say....

Franko   September 4th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Which God, in which ancient text ?
The law, not carved on the tablets, from Moses, the druggie. Shiva knows ?

Heat flow, Conduction, proportional to the Sane God T
Convetion has four Gods Schizophrenic, drunk on, T^4
Radiation, another four Gods, hurling chairs out the window, T^4

Add Water God, from which scripture ? We know his existance,
as extra in the Hurricane God's heat engine.

S Callahan   September 4th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Well, Franko since you asked 'the God that IS'. see your old testament..for his is the God of God's and there is no dispute.. Don't test his being to you for he will surely win. Perhaps you can borrow a Bible and read this Franko..Job 36:26....even you can't measure that!

ANTHONY   September 4th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

I think S Callahan is talking about the one and only GOD. The Creator of the universe. Any ways I hope all goes well and best of luck to you all in the paths of these storms

Victor Wolf   September 4th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Franko, look it the puzzle this way: You have no doubt entered a room and felt a disturbance that was caused by conflict. You may have been in a threatening situation and felt very uncomfortable, even to the point of leaving. The earth is no different. It is our home, and we ourselves, able to reflect the attributes of the Creator or the attributes of Chaos, make our environment.

Every city has neighborhoods no sensible person would enter after dark, perhaps not even in daylight. There are neghborhoods on earh – Iraq, Afganistan, and elsewhere, where you would not want your loved ones to dwell. The earth, alive with reproductive processes, is rejecting those places where injustice and discord rule.

The Sacred Text says we are made in God's image. When He said, Let us make man in our own image, He was speaking of His attributes. As I choose to show love, patience, charity, good will, peace, I am showing you His image. Should someone show you hate, intolerance, prejudice, indifference, the environment around that person changes from good to evil. The earth merely reflects what humans demonstrate.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes are designed to force humans to demonstrate godly attributes, and some to make neccessary changes in their personal lives that will utterly erase the chaos that has ruled them.

Daniel   September 4th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Yeah, basically, what Franko said. 😀

Wow Franko, you surely are in for a rude awakening...(deciet)

S Callahan   September 4th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

what i mean by deciet is that your heart is truely corrupted and you have no idea it is ...your heart is where you 'think' despite you belief that is from you mind....but as I said before, I will never be the one to make you believe..or demand it.
Cherish your brightness as know i and many others have but a second All that can be taken away...and then ..where are you.

in fairness, I have no idea why I adore you Franko ..but that surely must come from God.....have a blessed day

Franko   September 4th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

I am hiding, far far away, from the KingKong hurricane God.
Now if KingKong finds the love of his life. KingSasFootKong, the faith result

For a hurricane called Shiva (Hindu version), just do not know where to hide.

kristina   September 4th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

interesting weather conversation, although entertaining.

Ken in Dallas   September 4th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Callahan, why are you posting your dismissal of science on a science blog? Come to think of it, what are you doing with a computer? You and Franko are birds of a feather, both in the habit of posting bad jokes in place of actual discussion.

There's a simple reason science doesn't address God: by making a place for God within its scope, science would cease to have any meaning or relevance. If science is meaningless, then it more or less follows that computers are supernatural, probably inhabited by demons, and shouldn't be touched by proper religious people.

Incidentally, water's far from a bit player in weather phenomena, its part is actually second only to that of the sun itself. Without water, the atmosphere wouldn't move around half as much as in real life.

james   September 4th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

ummm.... GOD? can we please climb out of the dark ages and stop trying to reason everything you cannot explain as GOD?
seems not too long ago we really did prove (didn't we?) that thunder is not Thor or Zeus but a result of unbalanced electrons in the atmosphere and hurriances were not Tridents wrath but the earths natural heating / cooling cycle... (maybe GOD is hard at work performing all kinds of magic in my air conditioner at home??)

Franko   September 4th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

S Callahan   September 5th, 2008 9:51 am ET

Why do I post about God in a Science blog? Nice question.

Truth is, you would hae NO Science without God. All you study comes from God whether you are at the point of relization is another thing.

I personally respect the abilities of God, who IS the Greatest Scientist and already has the answers you seek. So is it really irony that one of faith would post in a Science blog? Not really, the two sometimes collide but there is also a point where the lines match and one can begin to see God's influence in everything. It all goes back to heart where all thought really comes from.

From a personal standpoint, I love learning all I can about Science.

Franko   September 5th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

God is running a projector. Not just an ordinary one, but holographic.
Please add that, as another biblical chapter.

Back to temperature, hurricanes, and water. T^4 effects predominate, how God pile drives the Temperature, the nail that stands up.

Victor Wolf   September 5th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

S. Callahan, I support you. Those who claim there is no God are like those who stand before a closed door and claim there is nothing on the other side. A true scientist would open the door and explore the area he cannot see because that closed door intervenes and blocks his view. Those who insist there is nothing on the other side and refuse to open the door, are like the blind teachers who purposely put out the eyes of their students, and the blind then lead the blind.

God is to be experienced. The scientific method applies to the search for His reality. But the scientists deny the experience as well as the application of the method because they are blind. Nevertheless, we must continue to offer the light. I did not always believe, and I am celebrating now that someone, in 1974, persistently and patiently continued to offer the light.

I wrote something about the application of the scientific method in the blog (about #91 or so) under the article, "Opportunities missed in preparing for Gustav".

You are FaithZonked by the FaithGod. FaithAnynomous chapter to be started. Alcoholics Anonymous has typical scenarios ? Simply, the yourself extended, museum protected pleasure, are you .

Porn magazne, your faith, another pleasure reality ?

S Callahan   September 5th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Victor, I apprecite your support. I don't blog about God to antagonize anyone. I simply desire for the world to know his goodness. So many take advantage of all he gives on this great earth, without consideration to him. Scientists ponder many things, looking for the answers, not reallizing that the true wisdom of what they seek lies in their heart with God. The knowledge of everything will just burst forth when the heart is right.

Regarding the weather, I still stand saying, God has a message...

Franko   September 6th, 2008 12:49 am ET

S Callahan: "reallizing that the true wisdom of what they seek lies in their heart with God" Convoluted, not Even Totally Wrong. Try negative feedback, compensating for amplifier distortions. Adaptive optics is another good similarity. Others, from Man know Thyself days understood. If Man in God's image, Man see Himself, result is !??

If we plugged up the Bering Straight, one giant ice mountain, lowering the ocean levels, world wide, to the continental shelf edges. What a way to save New Orleans. Bigger, more powerful hurricanes, a T^4 consequence, But saved by elevation, above the largest tidal swell.

S Callahan   September 6th, 2008 10:34 am ET

The result is : We are all sinners and have fallen short, yet God is merciful even for those who 'hear' but do not 'hear' the message. He is patient for only so long, just as most Fathers.

Ike is feeling testy today.

Maddie   September 6th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Oh my goodness everybody, calm down. No one cares if you believe or don't believe in God, it is just a message board. I think everyone is taking this a little too far.
If people want to say that they are praying that the hurricane is not a bad one let them! It's a free country where everyone can say what they want to say without being persecuted. Just chill, no one cares.

Franko   September 6th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

"The result is : We are all sinners and have fallen short,"
This is EcoZombie religion also; sin, quilt, control.
Like a suicide bomber, 72 virgins, be one with Allah, is the faith result.

Franko, you bog like your an alien from about being outside of reality. If you don't agree with my faith views, or anyone else's that is your perogative but at least show some decency in your comments.

Franko   September 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

S Callahan: You bring up your Faith. Good theory or not ? becomes a topic to be discussed, tried towards understanding. Eventually, move on till Faith topic is again renewed. Reminds me of the Osama interview, his continuous repetition, Allah be praised, the faith battery for the energizer bunny, or Faith dead.

Faith perverts what it seeks to elevate. Not a decency is Faith.

S Callahan   September 7th, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Yes I do bring it up..just asking you to be respectful. I'm done.

Franko   September 8th, 2008 1:08 am ET

Interesting preacher, on radio this afternoon, stated religion is a culture.
Reminded me of a talk show caller, who offered his insight, that culture is a state of hypnosis, to the hypnotist Roy Masters. Funny, in that Roy Masters thinks he is similar to Christ.

Kicking this around, organized my thoughts, hope, even you had a laugh.

Victor Wolf   September 8th, 2008 8:48 am ET

S. Callahan, thank you for your persistence in reaching out to others. I'm almost done. I must remind anyone who is interested that the Native Americans told the settlers not to build where New Orleans is now located. They understood the danger. The same was true of San Francisco, which the locals called "the land that walks".

The reason why I surrendered my interest in environmental science is the greed factor. Science points in one direction until, as I said, someone refuses to open the door. Sociology teaches "managed risk', telling us it is okay if so many people suffer. For example, in Colorado, the rule was, when I worked for a local paper about 15 years ago, that three people must be killed in an intersection before a traffic light can be installed.

We will soon learn that human life is just a commodity, thus "human resources" replaces "personnel". Long term profit will determine if New Orleans is to be rebuilt.

Sometimes we just have to say goodbye to those who will not open their eyes to see. Eventually, circumstances will cause them to do so.

i believe this is the worst experiment. i hate the fact that scientists always feel they got to prove something about how the earth was created. be happy that you are here and stop trying to interfere with what is going on now...just because someone was wrong about a lawsuit does not mean they are wrong about everything. i really believe they should not follow through with this experiment.

rachel   September 10th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

...and just understand Genisis chapter 1 IS real and God WAS and STILL IS true...and HE has the last say.
